How do you shine at work? The answer to that question may differ from person to person but how you shine doesn’t matter. We want you to put your best foot forward in every aspect of your life. That is why we put together a list of different ways you can shine at your job.
Four ways you can shine at work:
- Find out what your boss like’s.
- Get to know your team.
- Be positive.
- Volunteer.
Find out what your boss likes.
In order to excel, you must first know what your boss like’s and dislikes. What does your boss expect? What are his or her benchmarks? What does success look like to them? Whatever the case may be you have to understand what is expected. If you want to stand out you will have to go above and beyond what the “norm” is. Don’t be afraid to shine!
Get to know your team.
If you want to shine at work you have to get to know your team. Not just the team that you work directly with, but the team outside of your department. Building a bridge across departments is important because everyone’s job is affected by someone else. Don’t be shy. Get out there and make some friends. Who knows? You may be surprised at what it could do for you and your career.
Be positive.
No one likes being around someone who is negative all the time. Work can be hard enough, but when you are complaining about everything day in and day out no one wants to be around you. If you want to shine, you have to spread positivity everywhere you go. Start complimenting your coworkers on what a good job they are doing. Leave notes, write a card, or simply smile to let others know you are paying attention to the hard work they are putting in.
Volunteer.
Volunteer? What? At work? Yes! We don’t mean to volunteer to work for free, but you can volunteer to step up to the plate when asked. If your boss needs a shift covered or needs someone to take on additional responsibilities to get the job done don’t be afraid to speak up. Not only will you shine because you are doing work outside of your “norm” but you are also building up our skill-set and resume for the future.
