The holidays may be especially overwhelming for you this year. With the COVID-19 pandemic dominating all of 2020, you’re probably already exhausted. Yet you still have to clean, shop, decorate, cook, and figure out how to make the holidays as bright as possible for your equally worn out family. Working is probably the last thing you want to do right now. Yet for many companies, the holiday season is the busiest time of year. If you’re feeling like you’re at the end of your rope, here are a few tips to help you remain as productive as possible at work.
Vacation
A vacation is the best way to clear your head. Due to the pandemic, you may prefer a staycation rather than travel, but even a couple of days at home can help you relax and find new motivation. It’s fine to take care of a few holiday chores, but don’t fill those days with drudgery. Leave yourself some time to watch a holiday film with your family or simply rest.
Make It Count
Make the time you spend at work count. Organize your schedule and prioritize your projects. Though it can be tempting to multitask, such as shopping online during a meeting, this is never a good idea. You won’t be able to focus properly on either task, which can lead to overspending as well as ruining your productivity.
Promote a Holiday Mindset
Small touches, such as a string of lights or a desktop tree, can remind you why you are working so hard. Turn on some holiday music, wish seasons’ greetings to your coworkers, and let the holiday spirit wash over you. You’re more likely to stay productive if you don’t feel like you’re missing out on the holiday season.
Indulge Yourself
If you’re like many people, you may tend to lose yourself in the holiday rush. Carve out free time to do whatever makes you happy, from a candlelit bubble bath to a long walk in the woods. If you get sick, it’s always wise to stay home, and during the pandemic it’s essential. Whether you are sick or well, get plenty of sleep, drink lots of water, and eat a healthy diet. You’ll feel more energized and more productive as a result.
