Preparation is essential for any job interview. The more prepared you are, the less nervous you will be, and the more confident you will appear. If you are interviewing for a job as a production worker, you might wonder what to expect. Production work is a safety-critical position that also requires a certain level of both technical expertise and physical strength, so plan for interview questions that reflect these traits. Examples include, but are not limited to, the following.
Do you have past work experience in a physically demanding role?
Whether you have been a production worker before or not, your interviewer is looking for reassurance that you can handle the “brute strength” part of the job. Talk about times in which you had to lift or move heavy objects at work, and the tools and resources you used to reduce the risks of injury.
Do you have recent safety training, and have you ever had to report a safety issue?
Workplace injuries are an ongoing concern for both workers and supervisors. Let your interviewer know that you are familiar with safety procedures and are both willing to follow them and willing to report those who do not. Even if you have never had official safety training, a safety-first mindset can go a long way here.
Which machines have you worked with in the past?
This is, of course, easiest to answer if you have previously worked on a production line or in an industrial position. However, many employers are willing to train new hires on their specific machinery. Focus your answer on showing off your general mechanical aptitude and the enjoyment you feel when working with machinery.
Are you familiar with ERP software?
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software is often used to track inventory and operations, and more and more production workers are now being expected to use it. If you have specific ERP experience, let the interviewer know which programs you have used and which tasks you have performed with them. If not, then think of other examples that show computer literacy and express your eagerness to learn.
