In a warehouse, time really is money. If you want to move up the ladder, you’ll need to prove that you are highly efficient and productive. But how can you make your shift more productive? Here are four tips.
Do One Thing at a Time
It might seem like you would get more accomplished if you multi-task, but this simply isn’t true. All you will end up doing is splitting your attention and getting less done during your shift. Focus on doing one thing to the best of your ability, and then move on to the next. This will help make your shift more productive.
Take Breaks
You might be tempted to work through lunch, or at least through your designated break times. But don’t give into this urge. The human brain isn’t meant to focus for long periods of time without a break. In addition, warehouse work is generally very physical and may involve repetitive motions. Give your body and mind a rest by going for a walk, or at least moving around and stretching, whenever you can take a break. Also eat something nutritious and drink plenty of water.
Prioritize Safety
It might seem like you could get more done by cutting corners, but prioritizing safety is key to boosting your productivity. If you get injured, you could be out altogether for days or weeks. And if you cause a workplace incident, the entire operation could come to a halt. One of the best ways to make your shift more productive is to do things the right way, every time.
Share Your Ideas
Management might have some good ideas, but you are their eyes and ears on the warehouse floor. This means that you’re in the best position to know what’s working and what isn’t, and to suggest new processes that might be helpful. Find out where to submit your ideas, and then share your thoughts. Your feedback might just help the entire warehouse run more productively!
