5 Questions You Shouldn’t Ask in an Interview

Interviews are a great time for potential employees to get to know the company on a whole other level. But, as you know, there are some things you shouldn’t do in an interview and questions you just shouldn’t ask. That is why we compiled a list of interview questions that could hurt your chances of getting the job.

5 Questions You Shouldn’t Ask in an Interview:

  1. Is this a work from home position?
  2. What is the purpose of your company?
  3. How much vacation time do I get?
  4. Will I have to take a drug test?
  5. How many warnings do I get before action is taken?

Is this a work from home position?

Have you ever had a work from home position? If not, it is not something you should bring up if it is not listed on your resume. Asking a question such as this, makes the interviewer think that you do not work well with others or maybe you don’t like being supervised. Either way, it’ll leave a bad taste in the interviewer’s mouth.

What is the purpose of your company?

If you don’t know the company history before you apply for a job, that is already strike one. You should understand the mission of a company before going in for an interview. If you have no idea what they do or what they stand for that’s a red flag for you and the interviewer. Take the time to learn about the company and position you are applying for before submitting your resume.

How much vacation time do I get?

You haven’t started the job and you are all ready to go on vacation? Yikes! That’s not a good sign. Wait until you receive the job offer before discussing benefits.

Will I have to take a drug test?

If you have to ask the question… you know the answer. Drug tests are typically mandatory tests given before employment and even randomly while you are on the job. Don’t make the mistake and ask the question because it is a red flag.

How many warnings do I get before action is taken?

Are you planning to cause trouble or are you consistently late to work? If you have to ask about disciplinary measures, that will raise a red flag to your interviewer. Don’t give them a reason not to hire you. Always walk in with your best foot forward.
